YOUR COMMON QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Hopefully you'll find the answer to your question below, but if you're still unsure about anything please don't hesitate to contact us.
Jude says: Our events are for women aged 18 and over. Our bespoke adventures are open to children but they must be accompanied at all times by their parent or legal guardian.
Jude says: I love dogs but also recognise that not everyone feels the same way. Consequently, She Discovers events are only open to registered assistance dogs, subject to the completion of a risk assessment.
If you are booking a bespoke adventure, it may be possible for your dog to come along too. Please mention this at the time of booking.
Jude says: We offer a wide variety of activities, from short half day and evening walks to longer, more demanding challenge events. Information about the anticipated distance, duration and terrain is provided in each event description to help you decide which activity best matches your fitness and ability level. Walking regularly can be a great way to improve your fitness, but starting anything new can feel daunting. Our aim is to inspire more women to spend time outdoors so please get in touch if you need any advice.
Jude says: I understand what it’s like to be or to feel like the slowest person in a group. I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life, gaining and losing the same 3 stones more times than I care to remember. I was always amongst the last to be picked in team sports at school. One of the wonderful things about walking is that it isn’t competitive. We’ll walk at a comfortable pace, with plenty of breaks to enjoy the views, take photos and refuel. No one will be left behind or shouted at for taking their time.
Jude says: I know this feeling well! These are my three top tips:
- Focus on the positive outcomes – Our events offer the opportunity to meet other women who love the outdoors and the majority attend on their own. You could be one step away from making new friends for future adventures!
- Connect online - Join our Facebook group and get to know others attending the same event.
- Be kind to yourself - It’s normal to feel anxious when meeting new people for the first time.
Please get in touch if there’s anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable about joining us.
Jude says: Yes, provided your health condition is well controlled and will not impact on your safety during the event. We ask everyone to provide information about any health conditions on our booking form when they sign up for an event. This helps us to understand your needs so we can provide a safe and enjoyable experience. If you have a more complex health condition, we may ask you to seek medical advice about attending an event.
Jude says: I keep a close eye on the weather forecast in the days leading up to each event. If extreme weather is forecast, and an alternative to the planned route isn’t feasible, I will aim to contact you at least 24 hours prior to the event to cancel. Examples of extreme weather include flooding and gale force winds.
If you don’t hear from me, come prepared with waterproofs and warm layers, ready to embrace the elements! If on the day of the event the weather is worse than expected the She Discovers leader will consider alternative routes. If there is no viable alternative, the event will be cancelled.
Jude says: If we have to cancel an event for a reason other than extreme weather, you may:
- transfer your booking to an alternative event; or
- receive a credit note for the full amount paid, valid for a period of 24 months; or
- accept a full refund.
